Darling Details

Dress: Eskell/Gilt.com | Shoes: Tory Burch | Bag: Michael Kors

How cute is this dress and overall outfit combo? I admit, it’s a little shocking to see me in a formal-ish outfit after months and months of denim but I’m not hating this look—especially with the gorgeous triangle cutout and gathered sleeves.

It’s Monday and that means back to work. I “slacked off” on my Instagram game this weekend because honestly…I needed a break and didn’t feel like obsessing over making sure a photo I posted was good enough—nor did I really want to wear pants that didn’t have an elastic waist for more than 30 minutes. Errands did not get done this weekend, a lot of fast food was eaten and I didn’t really accomplish anything. The mark of a true weekend.

Corey and I have been really busy lately making plans with friends, driving to L.A., Pasadena and even did a quick 12 hour trip to San Diego to celebrate his grandparents anniversary last Sunday (which is where these shots were taken). For over a month, our weekends have been jam-packed and we finally agreed we needed a break. Though I’m still a bit disappointed I passed up a blogger meet up in L.A on Saturday (with yummy goodies and a chance to mingle with the city’s best bloggers), my body/mental health knows I made the right choice. Sometimes you’ve just got to let yourself just BE. #wisewordsfromSP.

I absolutely love how your blog is designed! I follow you on instagram and figured why not stop by here and say hi?:) That dress is such a pretty blue. I read your bio and would love any advice you have on becoming a magazine editor or working for a magazine. That’s my dream job and would love to hear from you:) Thanks! My blog is at casualcolie.com

Hi Nicole! Thank you so much for your sweet comment. I am planning on doing a longer, more detailed post on "How I got Started" but basically, I started out interning in different fields—including entertainment and social media (which really boosted my writing skills and helped me SO MUCH with launching my blog/Instagram). Eventually, I just started contacting local newspapers, blogs, magazines to pitch them my ideas. I made a lot of calls, emails and followed up (politely!) if I didn’t get a response after a week. One thing I’ve learned from being in my current position is always, always, always be courteous and appreciative of any opportunity given to you. Always be professional and don’t start an email with "Hey" to someone you want to hire you. Just my 2 cents 🙂

I see what you meant about the back detailing now! Gorgeous!

Thanks Jessica! I’m drawn toward classic (lazy?) styles in terms of how I dress but I love little extra touches that take an otherwise "blah" look to the next level…which is probably why I’m such a shoe addict 😉
